The app is also optimized for landscape mode, which is fine and portrait mode is not ugly. You can just get used to writing in the side bar but the app has no notebook feature so your margin notes and freehand notes are all mashed together. If you write within the margins of the document itself and not in the sidebar, those margin notes are difficult to find as well. If I highlight something, unless it’s dragged over to my side bar, I have to flip through pages to find it. But because of this they have no simple annotation viewer. Once it’s in the side bar it can be attached to notes or other blocks of information and that’s great, especially for research. Most of the functionality of liquid text is comprised of taking blocks of information and saving it one way or another. But it puts way too much stock in this idea that you have “get rid of all the extra stuff.” Like once you read something, it’s no longer important unless you’ve made it so. And it is if you like dragging and dropping. This is supposed to be the quintessential pdf reader. is that so difficult?Īs for the apps mentioned above, none of these fit my needs but they all have thier strengths and weaknesses. I really just want to make a straight line to underline text. An ideal app would have this feature but make it easy to turn on and off. Underlining, boxes, triangles, things that are composed of straight lines should be easy to create, perfect, and manipulate. It’s called many things on many different apps though It would also have a good layout in both portrait and landscape modeĪ good pdf app should have a place to write the free thoughts that may not fit in the margins. A good app would let readers choose between endless scroll and the standard page turn. Some have huge font, some have two book pages per individual document page, some have small font with no space in the margins. Most humanities students will be discussing the PDFs and texts with each other and quickly discerning and flipping between page numbers is a must when talking about them in class. Pdfs aren’t exclusively private or for the individual readers’ use. For reference I’m a literature PhD student, and if there’s anyone reading lots of documents it’s lit lit phdsįirst I will preface my reviews by outlining what I consider the essentials of PDF annotation apps are and how humanities students (well me) approach annotation. I’m not making this post to complain about the apps, instead I’d like to answer some questions others might have so that they don’t have to spend as much money and time as I did. It seem a like the app developers just can’t get it right for my needs and I’ve spent a lot of money. This past week I’ve been trying out Liquidtext and Flexcil and from what I’ve gathered, none of these quite suit the needs of a pdf reader or a humanities student. Im relatively new to the world that is paperless studying and paperless productivity. Thank you for reporting spam and other rule-breaking content.
